What are the basics of living in Ottawa?
(No one sponsors this article and it's not financial advice, but more as sharing personal experience)
As you can see from Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, we need breathing (no way, lol), food, water, shelter, clothing, and sleep. So, where can we find everything at a good price, and how can we save money? There are a lot of posts just giving random examples, but let's be more specific and exclusive.
Breathing: The first step is done already.
Food: Everyone says not to buy outside and yes, try to buy at supermarkets and make it at home if you want to learn to cook and have the time too, otherwise what we use is Too Good To Go or similar apps!
Let's have Tim Hortons as an example because they are everywhere:

Water: Tap water is the best (you can ask for free at almost any fast food too, kindly please)
Shelter: That's a big topic with different solutions, but it depends on how someone wants to live their life. You can live in a house or a car or just be "homeless" by living in nature or wherever you want, your life, you choose. But how to find the best option and what do to? For this article, we will not go extreme and choose a basic house. The basics are: 1. Water/electricity 2. Internet (it's 2024 outside) 3. Heating (winter is coooold in Ottawa)
In my situation, the utilities (water/electricity) can be included in your RENT (yes, we know, the rent price is crazy nowadays, but we will not cover it in this article, it will take too long). If the rent doesn't cover the utilities, try to use more electricity during the night when the ¢/kWh is cheaper (contact your electricity provider for more info). Water - don't waste it if you don't need it, that's all.
Internet - important one. Especially for 2024 when every telco wants you to be in contract with high cancelation and hidden fees. Not good at all. For this reason, we can recommend oxio.ca where you can get one month free of the Internet with the referral code R1001WI. You can click on the image below to check the serviceability of your address:
Heating vs winter. Gas - cheapest solution. If gas is not available, most houses have ACs, so you should be fine for the winter. (For any questions or suggestions, we can recommend texnonet.ca, free call for any tech questions)
Clothing, Sleep & More: You can always save some money on used items, a popular example is Kijiji.
Please be aware of any scams and always do your research! No wins without risks.
That's all for now! Thank you for reading until the end! It's the first article we made, so for any questions don't hesitate to contact us at support@x5gamers.com or x5gamers.community@gmail.com
